Surrey Counsellor – Amandeep Brar

Amandeep brings over 10 years of experience in mental health and social services, including work in the public school system, to her counselling practice at Sojourn Counselling and Neurofeedback. She is deeply committed to walking alongside individuals who are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, and life’s many transitions.

Amandeep’s counselling style is often described as warm, genuine, and deeply empathetic. Her priority is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can share openly, feel understood, and begin to heal. She works from a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally sensitive framework, recognizing that each person’s experiences are shaped not only by personal history, but also by the larger social and cultural contexts of their lives.

Her approach integrates Attachment Theory, Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness, allowing her to adapt to the unique needs of each client. Whether someone is coming to therapy for the first time or has been in therapy before, Amandeep meets them where they are, helping them build tools to manage difficult emotions, strengthen relationships, and find greater resilience.

As a woman of colour with her own lived experience of mental health challenges, Amandeep understands the importance of self-compassion and the courage it takes to seek support. This personal connection adds depth and authenticity to her work, particularly with clients navigating cultural identity, relationship complexities, or the pressures of life transitions.

Amandeep often encourages clients to begin with weekly sessions, especially at the start of therapy. This regular rhythm helps build momentum and trust, supporting deeper healing and more consistent progress toward goals. Over time, she collaborates with each client to adjust the pace that best suits their needs and circumstances.
